Phillip and Ann Sharp Directorship of the Cancer Center at Illinois
Rohit Bhargava named inaugural CCIL director after gift from Nobel Laureate Phil Sharp
Rohit Bhargava joined Illinois in 2005 and has gained global recognition for his research on chemical imaging and applications in cancer pathology, as well as pioneering novel educational models. Under his leadership as the founding director, the Cancer Center at Illinois (CCIL) has evolved from an idea into a formal campus interdisciplinary institute, engaging over 120 faculty members and hundreds of students and postdoctoral fellows from over 20 departments and six colleges.
“We formed the CCIL to bring together the world-class basic science and engineering expertise at Illinois to address problems in cancer,” said Bhargava. “Our discovery-to-use approach exemplifies the convergence that Professor Sharp has championed and the model of impact that he represents. I am deeply humbled by the support Phil and Ann have extended to the Cancer Center, Illinois, and me personally.”
Edwin M. Adams Professorship of Law
A career of scholarship and service
Verity Winship holds the Edwin M. Adams Professorship of Law, a distinction that recognizes her exceptional contributions to scholarship, teaching, and public engagement.
A nationally recognized expert in business law and complex litigation, Winship has been a driving force at the College of Law since joining the faculty in 2010. Her impact has been recognized with the Carroll P. Hurd Award for Excellence in Faculty Scholarship—twice—and through key leadership roles, including serving as interim dean and senior associate dean for Academic Affairs. Beyond Illinois, she has helped shape the future of higher education and legal scholarship as a fellow in the Big Ten Academic Alliance’s Academic Leadership Program and as chair of the Association of American Law Schools’ Securities Regulation Section.
Edwin M. Adams Professorship of Law was established through a generous gift from the late Edwin M. Adams, a distinguished attorney and actor who earned his law degree from Illinois in 1939.
